pain that we share
wandering aimlessly, our souls
finding refuge by fire, darkness around us
we are no longer alone in the night
instead we find solace in quiet
quiet conversation, silences held in comfort
warmness in our hearts
yet, pieces that could never fit together
fearing stagnation, cursing immobility
frozen in time are we, shames shared openly
a break from the facade, a crack in our being
hearing your frustration and irritation
i am moved to action, my mouth opens to advise
but can one who is lost guide?
and can one who is guided follow?
sometimes sheep are willfully lost
and are easily hunted in this cruel world
what ifs, what could have beens, if onlys
said to the air, a wish, a whisper
blind to a path laid in front of us
as we favor mazes made by our minds
huddling close to the fire we realize
we are our own enemy
i lash out, you simply listen
fire crackling, passion burning hot
i could become one with this burning flame
you regard me, ground me to this campfire
does the wind hear our calls?
does the air hear our strife?
two lost souls, still moving thru this landscape
do words even help anymore? why even bother?
the forest closes in, the air is dense
when all that we have is each other,
are we able to see a dawn to a new day?
bound forever to be complete yet contrary
whole but separate, loved but lost
at least we have now.
