SEPTEMBER RECAP. cooling things down into the autumn season.
1 october 2026, wednesday

As the heat slowly but surely recedes into cooler temperatures and windy days, I find myself hopping into VRChat a lot more to attend events, see friends, and of course, mix some fucking techno music. I've been very fortunate to have been able to do a lot this month, so please continue reading if you would like to know what I've been up to!
The beginning of this month, we had the DENKI RELOADED techno event featuring sets from Yuna, Cruzbot, xChillphil, and Toxictrate. I was also supposed to play on this lineup, but I felt really unwell that evening and couldn't make my set. Thankfully I was able to take a few photos of the venue while I was there for Phil and Cruz, and the world was really reminiscent of the aesthetics from the Matrix movie.

Streams of symbols covered the walls and ceiling, while the room was constantly blooming with saturated light.
The day after Denki Reloaded, I made stops over at VENT and MUTABLE.
Every time I am at VENT I feel like the energy is palpable with both the crowd and the DJ. Weegi played a wonderful set that electrified me to dance, even though I was quite tired from work that day.

Over at MUTABLE, the energy was much more slower paced, especially considering that the event was titled, "As Slow As Possible". I got to tune in for maiteu's set there and laid down onto the ground, nearly passing out from the peaceful soundscapes.
MUTABLE, directed and hosted by agateline, is a one of a kind venue in my eyes where music that isn't typically heard in the VRChat music scene is played. Drone, ambient, experimental, folk... MUTABLE presents a wide variety of avant garde music that I absolutely love. For this event, each DJ on the lineup had the availability to play for hours on end for their sets. I was really distraught I couldn't make it for work, but laying down below the soft lights and amidst the darkness of the world was quite calming.

Around the second week of the month, my friend Ember and I hopped a few worlds and sat in this really sunny, out-of-this-world planet.
What I love about worlds like this is that the brightness plays well with the avatars that we had on, and doesn't make us completely blinded by what we're wearing. Some worlds multiply the emission on our avatars to match the brightness of the world and it doesn't look great! It can make us look like walking lights or lanterns, and this is largely the reason why I try to avoid having too many emissions on my avatars.
I couldn't help myself and snapped a few shots of us there. Bit sad that I didn't save this world.

I played a 90 minute house set for GLASS alongside Ariel Emerald who played before me. I haven't had the time to really dive into playing house for awhile, so this was certainly a challenge! There were some technical difficulties on my end, but with the help of the crowd I was able to adjust the settings so that I could stream with no issues. Eson even took photos of me! What a privilege.

Later in the month I had the great pleasure of being asked to play at The Tower. I had a crate that I mixed for BOAT and wanted to try it out again with a different approach and it was a really fun set. The energy that the crowd gave myself and the DJ before me, leDinjo, was really amazing! Lots of people dancing and conversing with their friends. I also love the animation sequence you have to grow thru when you enter the world. You have to walk thru a street and then you get to an elevator that breaks you away to the CRT floor of the tower. You go up some stairs and the open dancefloor is right there with the DJ just off center.

The screen comes pretty closer to the heads of even the tallest avatars in this world, creating an intimate experience between the lights, visuals, and the crowd. The room is only illuminated with effects from the screen, which is perfect for techno as that was the genre of the evening.
What an honor to play here! Sir Rose VJ'd for me as well and it was very enjoyable to mix music at this venue. I very much like what the team at The Tower is doing.
My friends and I did one last hop session for the month and it was quite fun! We were a little worried about running into some AI generated worlds, but thankfully we didn't have any issues with that. The kind of on-going themes for worlds were dark, blue, and liminal.

In the picture above, one of our friends demonlittlebear got into an avatar that was a 3D scan of a family photo, so we opted to act as if we were part of the family photo haha. Looks quite uncanny especially with the liminal, backrooms-esque world as our background.
I also love taking my friends to worlds that feel like real places. For example, the place in the photo below felt like somewhere in my childhood - a place somewhat in between suburban and rural with a bridge and a river. We couldn't actually get on the bridge, some of us had to cheat by using playspace movement or flight animations.

This world kind of reminds me of a few places in Singapore, and I wish it had a bench or an area for people to hangout so that we could fully immerse ourselves here. Those are the sorts of features I really apprecaite the most in worlds. When me and my friends are able to talk and talk and talk and not notice the time fly by, then that means that world is quite special.
